Have the Mazda6 and Mazda CX-3 been discontinued?

Without further delay, let’s get straight to the point. If you’ve been thinking of getting a new 2022 Mazda6 sedan or a 2022 Mazda CX-3 crossover in the US, then you won’t find them anywhere because Mazda has discontinued both the Mazda6 and Mazda CX-3 in the North American market.

In a press release shared in May last year, Mazda had cited changing customer interests as a reason for the brand to discontinue the Mazda6 after the end of the 2021 model year. Because more and more customers are shifting their interest toward crossovers and SUVs, Mazda wants to focus on delivering the best crossovers and SUVs.

But what about the CX-3 crossover?

Although the 2021 Mazda CX-3 was a great compact crossover, and Mazda has been “proud of the performance, design, quality, and safety they contributed,” it said that the decision to discontinue the CX-3 in the US was again based on changing consumer interest and that the brand wants to keep delivering “beautifully designed vehicles that are fun to drive.”

Mazda’s former smallest crossover has been officially replaced by the newer Mazda CX-30 for 2022. At the same time, there’s no news on a successor or replacement for the Mazda6 sedan yet.

That said, you can still find the 2021 Mazda6 listed on the Mazda USA website, and it is also available with some dealerships. This can be because the model is not yet sold out.

Mazda6 and Mazda CX-3 History

The Mazda6 was first launched in the US in 2002 as a 2003 model year. The model had replaced the long-produced Mazda Capella aka Mazda 626 and had since been one of the longest-running and best-selling sedan models for Mazda in the US.

The Mazda CX-3 was a more recent model, first introduced in 2015 as the 2016 model in the US market. It had replaced the similar Mazda2 subcompact in the market.
