Before we jump into the EPA MPG ratings, let’s take a quick look at the 2022 Mazda CX-5 model lineup and what’s under the hood of the trims.

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 comes in eight trims, namely, CX-5 2.5S, CX-5 2.5 S Select, CX-5 2.5 S Preferred, CX-5 2.5 S Carbon Edition, CX-5 2.5 S Premium, CX-5 2.5 S Premium Plus, CX-5 2.5 Turbo, and CX-5 2.5 Turbo Signature.

Powering all the non-turbo trims is a 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G 4-cylinder engine that makes 187 hp and 186 pound-feet of torque. The CX-5 2.5 Turbo and 2.5 Turbo Signature models come equipped with a turbocharged 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo engine that has been tweaked to produce up to 256 hp @ 5,000 rpm and 320 pound-feet of torque @ 2,500 rpm using 93 Octane premium unleaded fuel.

How has all-wheel-drive affected the 2022 Mazda CX-5 fuel economy?

Despite being equipped with standard all-wheel drive, the non-turbo 2022 Mazda CX-5 models return the same EPA-estimated 24 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway, and 26 mpg combined as the AWD-equipped 2021 Mazda CX-5 models. The turbo models, too, continue to offer 22 mpg on city roads and 27 mpg on the highway, with an EPA combined rating of 24 mpg.

If we calculate how far the 2022 Mazda CX-5 can go on a full tank. Well, in that case, with its 15.3-gallon fuel tank capacity, the non-turbo CX-5 models can offer 367.2 miles of city driving, 459 miles of highway driving, or 397.8 miles of mixed driving on a tankful, while the turbo models can go up to 336.6 miles on the city roads, 413 miles of highways, or 367.2 miles of both.

Bottom line, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 is still a fuel-efficient crossover.
