Know the Types of Distracted Driving

Driving takes some skill and lots of attention if you want to do it safely. With experience most drivers become comfortable and tend to think it's safe to take their attention away from the road for a second. But, distracted driving puts you and other drivers at risk. Take a look at the three types of distracted driving.

Visual Distractions: these types of distractions cause you to take your eyes off of the road. They include:

  • Changing the radio station.
  • Look down at your GPS.
  • Picking something up off the floor.
  • Grooming.

Manual Distractions: these types of distractions cause you to take one or both hands off of the wheel. They include:

  • Smoking.
  • Eating and/or drinking.
  • Sifting through your purse or wallet.
  • Reaching back to help children.

Cognitive Distractions: these types of distractions cause you to take your focus off of driving. They include:

  • Daydreaming.
  • Driving while impaired by alcohol and/or drugs.
  • Talking to other passengers.
  • Road rage.
